What is Lip Blushing?
Lip blushing, also known as permanent lipstick or lip tattoo, is a permanent makeup treatment designed to enhance your lips with customizable color. This cosmetic tattoo technique can improve your natural lip color, shape, definition, and symmetry while creating a fresh, healthy-looking appearance without the harsh look of traditional lipstick.
At Dermaluxe Spa, we specialize in lip blushing in Houston, customizing each treatment to complement your natural lip tone, skin tone, facial features, and aesthetic goals. Whether you prefer a subtle wash of color or a more vibrant lipstick effect, your lip color is personalized to your desired result. Your lips, only better.
What to Expect
Your lip blushing experience begins with detailed lip mapping to create symmetry and a more balanced shape. Your artist assesses your lip structure, facial proportions, Cupid’s bow, and natural asymmetries before carefully pre-drawing the design for you to review and approve.
Once the shape is finalized, we select a pigment shade based on your natural lip color, skin tone, and desired result. Every color is customized specifically for you.
Using a digital device, pigment is implanted in multiple passes to gradually build soft, even color. Immediately after the procedure, your lips will appear brighter and more vibrant. As they heal, the color softens and settles into a more natural-looking tint.
The final result is beautifully enhanced lips with improved color and definition and less need for daily lipstick.

How do I prepare for a lip blushing appointment?
Preparing properly helps ensure the best results and a smooth healing process:
No recent fillers: Avoid lip injections or fillers for at least 6 weeks prior to your appointment.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your visit.
Color reference: Bring your favorite lipstick or lip liner to help us match your desired shade.
Cold sore prevention: If you’re prone to cold sores or fever blisters, you’ll need an antiviral prescription from your doctor. Start taking it 2 days before your appointment and bring proof of prescription. This is required—no exceptions.
Moisturize: Make sure your lips are soft and hydrated. If they are cracked, peeling, or excessively dry, please contact us to reschedule.
What should I expect after lip blushing?
Expect minor swelling, tenderness, and scabbing for a few days. The color will appear darker at first and gradually lighten as your lips heal. Follow all aftercare instructions carefully for best results.
During the first 10 days of healing after getting permanent makeup, it’s important to avoid the following:
- Touching the Area: Avoid touching the treated area with your hands to prevent infection.
- Picking or Scratching: Do not pick, scratch, or rub the scabs or flakes to avoid pigment loss and scarring.
- Water Exposure: Keep the area dry; avoid swimming, hot tubs, saunas, and long showers.
- Sweating: Minimize activities that cause heavy sweating, such as intense workouts, as sweat can interfere with healing.
- Makeup: Avoid applying makeup on or near the treated area to prevent contamination and irritation.
- Skincare Products: Refrain from using creams, lotions, exfoliants, or other skincare products on the treated area unless recommended by your artist.
- Sun Exposure: Protect the area from direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds, as UV rays can cause fading and irritation.
- Sleeping on the Face: Try not to sleep on your face to prevent rubbing and pressure on the treated area.
- Alcohol and Caffeine: Limit alcohol and caffeine consumption, as they can thin the blood and delay the healing process.
- Facial Treatments: Avoid facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, and other cosmetic procedures that could affect the treated area.
How long does a lip blushing appointment take?
The duration varies depending on the area being treated and the complexity of the design. Typically, a session can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
How long does lip blushing last?
Lip blushing typically lasts between 2 to 5 years, depending on factors like your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you care for your lips post-treatment. Over time, the color may fade slightly, but it remains subtle and natural. To maintain the vibrancy, many clients opt for a touch-up session every 1 to 2 years. Factors such as sun exposure, skincare routines, and individual skin healing can influence how long the color stays, so proper aftercare is key to maximizing the longevity of your results.
Do I need a touch-up after lip blushing?
Yes, touch-ups are often necessary for permanent makeup. The initial application may not achieve the desired color intensity, so a touch-up helps fine-tune the pigment. Some areas may fade more quickly than others, and a touch-up ensures even color distribution. Adjustments may also be needed to perfect the shape and symmetry. Additionally, touch-ups help maintain the appearance over time, as all permanent makeup gradually fades. We recommend a touch-up within 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure, with maintenance touch-ups every 1-2 years depending on the individual’s skin type and lifestyle.
Who should not get lip blushing?
Lip blushing may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have certain skin conditions, active cold sores, or are currently taking blood thinners or acne medications. A consultation is recommended to determine your eligibility.
Important considerations:
- Active Herpes Simplex Virus (Cold Sores): Increases the risk of an outbreak and may affect healing.
- Recent Lip Fillers: A minimum of six weeks is required after lip injections before treatment.
- Chronic Dry or Chapped Lips: Can affect pigment retention and lead to uneven results, increased irritation, and prolonged healing.
